A New Studio, A New Start

 Jumping for Joy ...

There is something exciting about starting fresh.

This past week, we’ve begun classes in our new Harp Irish Dance Company studio, and as I got everything ready, I kept thinking about how much this feels like the first week of dance for our dancers.

There are new things to learn.
New spaces to get used to.
A few nerves.
A lot of excitement.
And plenty of moments when you wonder, “Am I really ready for this?”

I think that is exactly what starting something new is supposed to feel like.

The First Day Feeling

Walking into a new studio can feel a little strange, even when you’re excited about it.

You have to figure out where to put your shoes. You don’t know exactly where everyone stands yet. The room looks different. The mirrors are in a different place. You’re learning the space while simultaneously trying to remember your steps.

That is a little bit like being a dancer at the beginning of a new level.

Maybe you’ve moved into a new class. Maybe your feet are being asked to do things they’ve never done before. Maybe you’re suddenly expected to remember more, work harder, or dance with a little more confidence.

It can feel awkward before it feels natural.

And that’s okay.

You Don’t Have to Be Good at Something New

One of the things I love about dance is that we get to watch children experience this lesson over and over again.

They don’t walk into their first class knowing how to dance.

They learn.

They stumble.
They forget.
They try again.
They watch someone else.
They laugh.
They get frustrated.
They finally get it.

And then, months later, they do something that once seemed impossible without even thinking about it.

A new studio reminds us that the same thing is true for all of us.

We don’t have to walk through the door already knowing exactly what we’re doing.

We just have to walk through the door.

A New Room, But Still the Harp Family

Our new studio is different.

The walls are different. The floors are different. The rooms are different. We’re still figuring out where everything belongs and how we want the space to function.

But the most important part hasn’t changed.

The dancers are still the heart of Harp.

The laughter is still there.
The hard work is still there.
The music is still there.
The friendships are still there.
The encouragement is still there.

The room may be new, but the feeling of being part of the Harp Family is something we’re bringing with us.

And I hope our dancers feel that every time they walk through the door.

What Will You Do With Your New Beginning?

A new dance year is more than a new schedule.

It is an opportunity to decide what you want this year to look like.

Maybe your goal is to finally get that step you’ve been working on.

Maybe it’s to become stronger.

Maybe it’s to perform without being nervous.

Maybe it’s to make a new friend.

Maybe you’re ready to challenge yourself and see how far you can go.

Or maybe your goal is simply to keep showing up.

There is no wrong place to start.

Just like our new studio, you don’t have to have everything figured out on the first day.

You just need to begin.

So as we open the doors to our new home, we’re celebrating more than a new space.

We’re celebrating new beginnings.

For our dancers.

For our teachers.

For our families.

And for all the wonderful things that haven’t happened yet.

Welcome to the new Harp studio.

Let’s see what we can build here together.
